Safety alert - safe trenching A worker had to use his hands and a spade to dig his workmate free from a torrent of dirt when a trench they were excavating collapsed in the Waikato backblocks, in what WorkSafe says was a preventable incident.
Safety alert: leg entrapment in hoe rotor After completing a stabilising run of approximately 180 meters, a machine operator returned a rotary hoe to the park-up area. Once in the park-up area, the operator raised the rotor and hood and, with the rotor and hood elevated, approached the powered turning rotor and kicked at some dirt on the lower skid to clear debris from the skid.

Updates: Regional return to COVID-19 Alert Level 2 and 3 New Zealand is moving to COVID-19 Alert from 12pm on 12 August. The Auckland region will move to Alert Level 3. It will remain at Alert Level 3 for at least 3 days. The Auckland region is everything in the Auckland Council boundary — from Wellsford in the north to Pukekohe in the south. The rest of New Zealand is moving to Alert Level 2.

Safety alert – falling trailer ramps Inframax has issued an industry-wide safety alert following a fatality with a falling trailer ramp on a wash apron earlier this month. Two versions of the alert have been issued (see below), one for semi trailers and another for full trailers.
